Ladybones Road is a major district of London, rife with mysteries and intrigue.


Veilgarden is a major district of London. Best known for its bohemian leanings, this neighborhood is filled with entertainment, honey-dens, and scandalous delights.


Spite is a major district of London, whose most iconic landmark is St Fiacre's Cathedral. The streets of this impoverished neighborhood are ruled by gangs of urchins who live in the Flit high above.


Mrs Plenty's Most Distracting Carnival is a year-round fair held on the eastern outskirts of London.


Watchmaker's Hill is a major district of London. One of the more dangerous parts of the city, this neighborhood is home to the Department of Menace Eradication, which pays upstanding citizens to hunt various pests in the nearby marshes.


The Forgotten Quarter is the last surviving remnant of the Fourth City.


The Shuttered Palace is the home of the Empress, her Consort, and her children. Why is it shuttered? "Apparently the Empress doesn't like light. Or sudden movements, loud noises, foreigners, treason, peaches. When you're Empress, you can do this kind of thing."


The Flit is an aerial network of rooftops, bridges, and ladders, primarily concentrated above Spite. It serves as respite for urchins and a convenient hiding place for thieves and spies.


Wolfstack Docks is London's single major port, located on the banks of the Stolen River near the western shore of the Unterzee.


"What can you find in the Bazaar Sidestreets? Respectable firms crammed into ramshackle workshops and pokey offices. The rent here is astronomical. But the quick and the hungry turn profits in the shadows of the spires. Just keep your eyes off the carvings up high. And whatever you do, don't fall in love."




Part zoo and part Bedlam (though the real Bedlam is a good distance south), the Labyrinth of Tigers is a curious attraction where the tigers are the only exhibits who may roam freely.


Concord Square

The headquarters of London's Constables.


Moloch Street is a major artery through Ladybones Road. Its landmarks include the Brass Embassy - Hell's stronghold in London - as well as the Moloch Street Underground Station, which serves as the eastern terminus of the Moloch Street Express and the Great Hellbound Railway.


Hangman's Arch

A common site of public hangings, despite the unreliability of death in the Neath.


A vast and ancient network of tunnels beneath London, inhabited by many Clay Men.


The Brass Embassy is Hell's bastion in London, and thus a base of operation for devils.



The Singing Mandrake

A noteworthy tavern in Veilgarden.


St Fiacre's Cathedral

The most majestic landmark of Spite, headed by a rather peculiar Bishop.


The University is London's primary institution of period-appropiate pseudoscience ahem, knowledge and innovation.



The Orphanage, operating under Mr Fires' protection, is a mysterious facility that sits in the heart of Spite's labyrinth.


Doubt Street

The hub of London's newspapers, magazines, and other printed publications.


Mahogany Hall is London's most popular and prestigious theatre. It really does put on a different kind of show each day, just as advertised.


Mrs. Chapman's
Boarding House

A place for those who have nowhere else to go. Alias Horatia's. Location approximate.


Tentergrounds Synagogue

The only known synagogue in London. Location approximate.

Protomartyr

The Department of Menace Eradication pays brave Londoners to eliminate threats to the city, particularly those in the nearby marshes.


The Medusa's Head

A tavern owned by the Cheery Man.


A marsh on the outskirts of London, crawling with all sorts of strange and dangerous beasts.



An area on the outskirts of London that is littered with deadly-sharp stalagmites.



The Temple Club

"In an unprecedented move, the clandestine and obscure Temple Club has opened its doors to the public. It is a place for free thinkers, radical antiquarians and luminaries of the modern age to gather amidst the ruins of the Fourth City."



The Blind Helmsman

A zailors' pub in Wolfstack Docks.


Hogslain Market



Tucked into a quiet corner of Tyrant's Gardens, Wilmot's End is the base of the Great Game in London, and the location of the Foreign Office.


The Foreign Office is an almost completely autonomous wing of London's government that is responsible for appointing colonial governors of Port Carnelian.



Drowned Parliament

After the Fall of London, the Empress and the Masters of the Bazaar found no further use for Parliament. So it ended up here.


"I've heard tell that there's a fancy club for exceptional sorts. It's on the river, in the shell of some old clock tower. The things that go on there! They'd curl your hair and clench your toes."

The Echo Bazaar is the center of commerce in London.


Flute Street is an ancient Rubbery city that lies beneath London.


The Royal Bethlehem Hotel, formerly the hospital of the same name, is an elite hotel run by a very mysterious manager.


Unterzee[edit | edit source]

Please note that the following is a sample map, arranged to most closely match the physical Sunless Sea Kickstarter map. The Unterzee is heavily subject to the Treachery of Maps and islands may rearrange themselves at will. The only constant locations are those on or near the western and southern continents, and Irem


London: the Fifth City. Deep, dark, and marvellous.




The Elder Continent is a vast, warm, and humid landmass, bathed in the soft glow of the Mountain of Light, that forms the southern edge of the Unterzee.


The Khanate is a powerful and technologically advanced nation inhabited by descendants of the Fourth City.


The Principles of Coral is a massive coral reef. Its primary port is Port Cecil.


Adam's Way is a port town at the mouth of the blood-red Nameless River. It marks the gateway to the Elder Continent and the Presbyterate.


Saviour's Rocks is an island chain filled to the brim with sorrow-spiders.




Whither is a city located to the far north of the Unterzee, near the Pale Wastes and Codex - or is it?


Codex is an island to the north of the Unterzee, located east of Whither. Many of its inhabitants came from Whither because they dared to answer a question.



Venderbight is the most well-known port in the Tomb-Colonies. It is a frequent destination for traveling tomb-colonists and Londoners fleeing great scandal.



Hunter's Keep is a little island in the Southern Archipelago. It would be as desolate as its neighbors, if not for the solitary country house on its cliffs.


Mutton Island is a small island in the Southern Archipelago. Its primary settlement, Quaker's Haven, hosts the Fruits of the Zee Festival every August.



The Cumaean Canal is a true marvel of engineering that allows for easy passage between the Neath and the Surface.



The Iron Republic is a chaotic, lawless colony of Hell. And by "lawless," we mean that not even the laws of physics are applicable.



The Grand Geode is officially designated as Station V by the Admiralty. Something is not quite right here, however.

The Ragged Crow is an enormous lighthouse in the Stormbones. It serves as a key landmark for zailors that pass nearby, and it attracts dangerous, ship-sized Tyrant-Moths like literal moths to a flame.



Demeaux Island is covered in a fungal forest. Iron & Misery Company runs a dreary harvesting station here.



The Salt Lions are two enormous, ancient basalt monuments.


Wrack is a city of sunken ships on the floor of the Unterzee.



The Shepherd Isles are a small archipelago. Despite their name, there are no shepherds nor sheep here. And don't trust the locals.


Abbey Rock is a tiny island in the Southern Archipelago, and the home of an order of feisty warrior-nuns.


Station III is a top-secret Admiralty facility.



Port Carnelian, located on the coast of the Elder Continent, is London's first and only colony in the Neath.



The Avid Horizon is the frozen and desolate gate that links the Unterzee to the High Wilderness.


The Chapel of Lights is an... eccentric church that lights the way NORTH.



Nuncio is the final destination of the Neath's undelivered mail - and a fair few of its postal workers, too.


Nook is a settlement within the maw of an enormous leviathan, located below the Unterzee.



Gaider's Mourn is a pirate citadel, located at the center of the Snares and the Unterzee as a whole.



Godfall is a stalactite from the Roof of the Neath that crashed into the Unterzee. It is currently populated by a group of boisterous and warlike monks.


Dahut is a city under the zee, inhabited by Drownies.


Polythreme, the birthplace of the Clay Men, is a small island nation ruled by the King with a Hundred Hearts.



Rosegate is a tobacco shop under the Zee.


Visage is an island of masks.


The Isle of Cats is the foremost smuggling port in all the Zee, and the primary source of contraband gaoler's honey.



Mount Palmerston is a large volcanic island, covered in ash and burned ruins.


Anthe is a city of crystal located under the Unterzee.



Khan's Glory is the place of residence for the upper caste of the Khanate.


Khan's Heart is the most populous city of the Khanate.


Khan's Shadow is inhabited by the Khanate's exiles, pirates, and other lost folk.



Pigmote Isle is uninhabited by humans. But it is inhabited - and its residents are positively adorable.



Frostfound is a castle of ice, and a repository of mind-bending secrets.



The Gant Pole is the place where zee-beasts go to die.


The Chelonate is an enormous zee-turtle carcass inhabited by a colony of Monster-Hunters.



The Empire of Hands is the homeland of the soul-loving Pentecost Apes.



The Uttershroom is a giant mushroom in the southern Unterzee.



The Fathomking's Hold is the magnificent coral castle of the Fathomking, most of which is invisible from the surface.


Aigul is a huge, stationary Lorn-Fluke. When a British zubmarine, the Fortas Kettle, was sunk by its spines, the Admiralty turned the whole mess into "Station VI."



Varchas is a sprawling city of light and mirrors, located near the coast of the Elder Continent.



Irem will be a vast city of stone rising from the zee, surrounded by ice and blanketed in roses.



Scrimshander is a giant underwater repository of knowledge, carved in ivory and bone.


Wisdom is a floating prison surrounded by masses of incongruous lilypads. Are the scarlet lily-frogs neighbors or prison guards? It's hard to tell.



Hideaway is an underwater city built on the back of an enormous crustacean. It harbors exiles from all over the Neath.


Aestival is an island located under a hole in the Roof of the Neath. It is bathed in precious, deadly sunlight.



Kingeater's Castle is a castle at the end of the world.

London's thriving, bustling, brawling harbor.



A center for the arts of Rubbery Men.

An ancient forest, home to a ragtag band of exiled devils.

New London is the capital of Albion and the British Empire. It is the product of an immense effort to rebuild Fallen London in the skies, "brick by brick."



The Clockwork Sun is the artificial star that gives light to Albion. Something is very wrong here.


When London ascended into the High Wilderness, so did its greatest minds. Still known as the Royal Society, they've taken up residence in a desolate part of Albion.


The Wreck of the Boatman

A locomotive taken hostage by its dead passengers.



The House of Chimes was taken to the High Wilderness alongside the rest of London, but was later set adrift.


The Floating Parliament is the British legal entity we all know and might not love. Except it's been lovingly rebuilt brick by brick in space, then set adrift in Albion; no one really pays attention to its laws anymore, as the Empress seems to be quite tired of its authority.


The Brabazon Workworld, called Brabazon for short, is a massive factory complex in Albion. It is mainly involved in the processing of hours, causing its workers to rapidly age during their shifts.


The Well of the Wolf is a sky-well located in Albion. It is a site of pilgrimage for devils.



The Most Serene Mausoleum is the tomb of the Prince Consort. It is also the living quarters of the Deathless, and the terminus of the Necropolis Line. And it's built on top of the dead sun of Albion; what could go wrong here?


The King of Hours was the Regent of the kingdom now known as Albion.


The Avid Horizon is the gate that links the Unterzee to the High Wilderness. It served as London's gateway to the heavens, and has now been sealed.



Worlebury-juxta-Mare is a recreation of the British seaside in the High Wilderness. This quaint little destination is haunted by a variety of strange phenomena.


The jewel of Albion, Perdurance holds the offspring of its most accomplished individuals, who relive a single perfect day for eternity thanks to to a stable supply of hours.




Eleutheria[edit | edit source]

Pan, a settlement located at the center of Eleutheria, is a bastion of criminals, outcasts, and cults who might be persecuted anywhere else in the High Wilderness.


The new base of operations of the Calendar Council; specifically, the residence of December, January, and February.


A garden of Heart-Catchers, whose fruits look like human heads.


The Brazen Brigade is a counterrevolutionary faction of devils.


The Gentlemen

The Gentlemen are a notorious gang of smugglers who have found refuge in the lawlessness of Pan.



Eagle's Empyrean is the Khanate's settlement in the High Wilderness, and the only place in Eleutheria still filled with light.


The artificial Xanthous Moon lights the city of Eagle's Empyrean. Unlike London's Clockwork Sun, this Moon is simply constructed from lanterns.



"A black and seething sun! The Halved sheds no light, and no law."



Piranesi is a prison reserved for those who offend the Halved, for instance by bearing the decree of another Judgement's laws. None may leave unchanged.



Achlys is a bustling market, whose merchants primarily sell tea and spices.


This relay once connected Eleutheria and the Reach.



A massive wrecked locomotive, which carried a great number of now-stranded scholars and revolutionaries from Albion toward freedom.


Langley Hall is an apparently infinite mansion, built by the eponymous and reclusive Lord Langley.


The Well of Wonders imprisons the primary party responsible for the events that led to the destruction of Eleutheria. (Ah, what a dramatic way of putting it.)


Caduceus is a rose-strewn temple, and the place from which the devils entered Parabola.




Blue Kingdom[edit | edit source]




Sky Barnet is the entry to the Blue Kingdom for the dead, and the place of residence for the Kingdom's living citizens.


An enormous sky-palace, filled with countless courts in which the the inhabitants of the Blue Kingdom can submit appeals regarding the alteration of their legal status.


The Forge of Souls is a powerful and legendary device located inside the Lyceum: the library of the Sapphir'd King.


The White Well is the place of judgement for the Blue Kingdom's dead - and the final resting place of all that it deems Failed Dead.


Death's Door is the final destination of all worthy souls of the Blue Kingdom.


The glorious garden-palace of the Arbiter of Fates, daughter of the Sapphir'd King.


Horologion

The clock of the Blue Kingdom, which governs the sequence of Observances that bring each spirit to Death's Door.
