"Huge fish swim in the Persephone, their scales the colour of sunset or moon-rise. They have seven eyes and seven hearts that pump scarlet blood through their cream-white flesh."[1]

The Persephone is a river in the Hinterlands that is accessible from Jericho Locks, but owned by Hell.[2] It is stocked with tribute from the Guild of Gondoliers,[3] in the form of seven-eyed, seven-hearted fish with white flesh.[4] Their scales, called Moonlight Scales,[5] shine the color of "sunset and moonlight,"[6] and are a delicacy in Hell.[7] Other offerings from the time periods of past Fallen Cities also litter the river.[8]
