I'm assuming these monks are a neathy offshoot of Carthusian Monks, which had monasteries in England dating back to the middle ages. The monks also mention Chartreuse, which their order used to make. Carthusians are also known for their eremitical and cenobitic monasticism, simply put, means they live lives as hermits usually in a community. This all is pretty obvious on the surface but it isn't mentioned in the article. Additionally, Bruno of Cologne, was said to start an order in Calabria, Italy before he died. Which is suspiciously close to an entrance to the neath at Lake Avernus. This leads me to believe that the identity of the Abbot-Commander, may in fact be Bruno, the founder of the Carthusian order.
