"Rusting machinery dots the scarred landscape, ruined by the troop movements: the raising and toppling of defences; the casting down of commanders. Here and there, roses rise from the earth: red as open wounds."[1]
The Fields of Roses are a location near Marigold Station in the Hinterlands.[2] This area was a battleground of the Campaign of '68,[3] and remnants of the war's machinery and fortifications remain.[4] The roses that grow here have a fiery glow, and may burn those that get too close.[5][6]
Near the field are the Trenches of the Faithless, where London's forces fought and died.[7] Their bodies still remain,[8] some preserved with Law-Furnaces,[9] as do the weapons of the belligerents: the comparatively primitive artillery of London, and the devastating war-engines of Hell.[10]
↑For All the Saints Who From Their Labours Rest, Fallen London"[...] cannon here, a chain-gun there; [...] When London's forces ran out of ammunition, they turned to antique weaponry: the trebuchet [...] you can find the detritus of Hell's weaponry. A slumbering Utterance [...] aftereffects of a Brazen Doctrine, [...] a War-Furnace; decreeing death, torpor and desertion."
