The Silent Saint

"A vast sheet of ice has frozen over the ossified corpse of a vanquished beast. The surface is pockmarked with failed mining attempts. Collapsed shafts extend into the frigid tomb, and abandoned mining equipment litters the ice like discarded toys."

The Silent Saint is a deceased Aeginae that floats in the Reach, its body covered in ice.

Hypothermic

"Legends and rumours gather about the beast entombed below; a mythic hoard yet unclaimed."

The Silent Saint is a massive Aeginae that floats lifelessly through the Reach, completely encased in ice. Several mining expeditions, motivated by tales of riches and wonders, are conducted here to breach through the ice's surface. However, such expeditions are dangerous, as even the slightest error can cause severe casualties, and the cold atmosphere can freeze locomotives to the ice, damaging them.

Far below the ice is the Saint's body, covered in tough, grey scales. These scales are as tough as diamond, and some hold treasures below them, such as gemstones. The Saint's body is also covered in many, many eyes, though most them are now empty sockets.

The Dragon's Quest

"A choir of many voices; a flower meant to grow large and perfect, debasing itself with stolen nectar. A horde of Chorister bees approach, maddened and entranced. A flower that seeks to become a hive. Amalgamy. The seventh letter. The Saint begins its tearing work."

Before it died, the Silent Saint traveled to the Reach to destroy the flower known as Titania. This flower sought to grow and become a hive by attracting Chorister Bees with stolen nectar, which the Saint deemed amalgamy. Thus, the Saint began its "tearing work".

However, the Silent Saint apparently died before it could kill Titania, as the flower remains alive and active. The cause of the Saint's death is unknown, but legends say it died gorging itself on Hours. Regardless of this tale's veracity, the Silent Saint's stomach is indeed still full of Hours, only half-digested.

Trivia

The original Grave

In an early version of Sunless Skies, the ice covering the grave was transparent, revealing that the Saint died while fighting a Messenger, with whom it is buried. It is not known if this is still canonical.
