"The Scarlet Condottiere leads you towards a gorge carved into the fields. Smoke rises up from it in lazy plumes. Violet flowers speckle the rock, like the start of a rash."[1]

The Lamentations of the Violet are a location near Marigold Station in the Hinterlands.[2] It is a massive, smoking gorge, littered with strange violet flowers.[3] These flowers are actually glass, and are a "failed embassy" to the Fingerkings; inspecting one reveals a coiling being within.[4] Near the end of the gorge is a river of burning oil: detritus from the Campaign of '68.[5] During the war, Hell lured London's soldiers into the gorge, ensuring their destruction.[6]
