Cornelius is a prominent member of the Tracklayer's Union and the leader of the Prehistoricist movement within the Union.

Philosopher of the Chain

Cornelius is a scholar who has extensively studied both the Great Chain of Being and the Correspondence,[1][2] and founded the Prehistoricist ideology based on his findings.[3]

During the building of the Moloch Line, the original railway between London and Hell, Cornelius co-led the Tracklayer's Union alongside Furnace Ancona.[4] The construction of the line went well until the workers reached the Hurlers.[5] A deviless sought to sabotage Cornelius,[6] teasing him about not being able to read an inscription written in the Discordance, and smuggled him a dictionary. When Cornelius read the inscription, it wounded him grievously enough to send him to the Slow Boat[2] and gave him many extra mouths, each with its own voice and opinion.[7]

Disgraced and disfigured, Cornelius spent six months in The Tomb-Colonies.[8][9] After his return, he began to preach his philosophy in the Tracklayer's union headquarters at the Magistracy of the Evenlode,[10] and started planning his next move...[11]
