"She styles herself 'the last honest Special Constable in London'. And she wants to bring down the Cheery Man, who controls Watchmaker's Hill."[2]

The Last Constable is the self-proclaimed "last honest Special Constable in London," having distanced herself from her colleagues when they fell in with the Ministry of Public Decency and the Masters of the Bazaar. Her primary objective is to dismantle the criminal operations of her father, the Cheery Man, a notorious crime lord in the city.[3] A dedicated investigator, the Last Constable spends much of her time holed up in an office above Caligula’s Coffee-House. She is an avid drinker of their coffee, which keeps her working but deprives her of much-needed sleep.[4]

The Constable's parents that once ruled Spite and beyond through crime, making as many enemies as one might expect.[5] One day, the Last Constable and her father went to meet her mother for tea at Beatrice's, only to find a deadly ambush unfolding. Though her mother fought fiercely and took down many of her attackers, she did not survive, leaving her husband alone to raise their daughter.[5] Before her death, the Constable's mother had requested a coffin filled with sunlight should the worst happen, as she despised the idea of any form of undeath.[6]
