The Travertine Spiral
From The Fifth City Wiki
(Redirected from Travertine Spiral)
"A great spiral of white stone, joining the ground of the Neath to the Roof – and the Surface beyond."[1]
The Travertine Spiral is a colossal natural wonder and architectural marvel that links the Neath to the Roof and, ultimately, to the Surface. Together with the Cumaean Canal, it serves as one of the two principal thoroughfares between the underworld and the lands above. The Spiral itself is formed from a conjoined stalactite and stalagmite,[2] fused over ages into a towering auger-like column.[3] Its outside is littered with thousands of carved windows, while its interior houses a labyrinth of staircases, elevators, and funicular that transport travellers up and down the Spiral.[2]
