The Orphanage, operating under Mr Fires' protection, is a mysterious place that sits in the heart of Spite's labyrinth. From the outside, it looks entirely unremarkable. It's a mansion made of red brick; perhaps it could have been a school in past decades. Inside, however, everything is white, like a modern-day hospital - walls, floors, ceilings. The masked orderlies wear white uniforms as well.

Despite its name, the Orphanage seems to house more than just children. Some of its residents are adults whose parents were murdered permanently. Others offended the Masters, or are madmen or madwomen.

This mysterious masked fellow is a high-rank enforcer for Mr Fires, feared by most inhabitants of London who know of him, even the neddies. There are many rumors about him and his true nature - is he the same sort of creature as the Masters, or perhaps two rubbery men glued together at the back?

What is obvious and easy to confirm once you meet him is that he dresses elegantly and wears a scowling mask everywhere. His voice is strange and changes pitches, and he is distinctly unused to casual movement. He also seems to be much faster and stronger than he looks. Perhaps he is a Starved Man from the roof of the Neath, or a successful project of the Orphanage itself?

The Orphanage is in fact a testing ground for the properties of moon-milk, a liquid extracted from a strange insect from the roof of the Neath called a moon-miser. The Orphanage's specimen is held in the basement, in Room 122.

Ingesting moon-milk makes a person fall in violent, obsessive love with the first thing they see afterward (this includes inanimate objects). Separating them from the object of their adoration causes insanity, death, or 'avulsion'. The only way to reverse the effect of moon-milk is to blind the affected person or give them Lethean Tea.

A noteworthy test subject from the Orphanage goes by the name of Clarabelle. She has been forced to fall in love with the Orphanage itself (the entire building!), managed to become pregnant by the moon-miser in the basement, and is about to give birth to some sort of monstrous hybrid.
Your goal in Light Fingers is not in fact to obtain a mega-diamond; instead, you'll be dealing with a poor young test subject from the Orphanage by the name of Clarabelle. She has been forced to fall in love with the Orphanage itself (the entire building!), managed to become pregnant by the moon-miser in the basement, and is about to give birth to some sort of monstrous hybrid.
