== Historical and Cultural Inspirations ==
The Beleaguered King's intent to sacrifice his daughter to Storm bears some similarities to an event in Greek mythology, which is said to have occurred early in the Trojan War. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agamemnon Agamemnon], king of Mycenae, incurred the wrath of the goddess Artemis (although stories differ as to exactly how), and was told that he would have to sacrifice his daughter [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iphigenia Iphigenia] in order to turn the winds back in his favor and sail to war in Troy. 

Agamemnon's family tree had been cursed by the gods thanks to the treachery of one of his ancestors, and as such, this was just one of many horrific events in the king's life. It is pertinent to note that the last of these events was his murder by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clytemnestra Clytemnestra], his wife and the mother of his children.
