Codex is an island to the north of the Unterzee located east of Whither. It is a sullen place home to a group of Mute Exiles,[3] many of whom are ex-Whithern that dared to answer instead of ask.[4][5] Some Exiles have a particular question they have been trying to answer their whole life; should they find their answer, they may start speaking again.[6]
There is a small population of monkeys here who maintain a mysterious shrine. They are in possession of several scientific log-books, including one that documents the Correspondence sigils marking the landscape of Codex.[7] In fact, sigils can be found within the terrain of Codex as well, etched into the island's stones like fossils.[8]
↑Acquire a Doomed Monster-Hunter, Sunless Sea"This one has waited all her life for a single answer. Give her that answer [...] "Thank you! [...] "I've waited so long to speak, [...]"
↑Offer the shivering monkeys a Lamentable Relic, Sunless Sea"Offer the shivering monkeys a [...] Relic [...] They will lay it before their mournful shrine. In exchange, they offer [...] log books [...] An irritable monkey snatches the relic [...] Another [...] flings three log books at you, [...] Each is filled with scientific field notes: this one of zee-soundings, this one of angler-crab behaviour, this one cataloguing the fossilised sigils of Codex."
↑Allow your Navigator to join the Mute Exiles, Sunless Sea"He leads you to an unmarked stone the size of a church Bible, [...] and strikes the stone [...] It splits in half. Inside, a sigil the colour of quartz glistens, trapped in the stone like a fossil."
