Codex

From The Fifth City Wiki

"An isle of answers."[1]

The Isle of Codex, or just Codex, is a chilly island to the north of the Unterzee, located east of Whither.

Silence

"Codex: a desperate caveful of mute exiles, and an inexplicable colony of shivering, bad-tempered monkeys."[2]

"This is what I needed. This is enough. I've waited so long to speak, and now - now I have nothing at all to say. Quickly, then. Find me my death."[3]

Codex is a sullen island home to a group of Mute Exiles,[4] many of whom are ex-Whithern that dared to answer instead of ask.[5][6] Some of these exiles possess a certain question, the answer of which they've been searching for forever; should they find the answer to their question, they may start speaking again.[3] Certain exiles may also reveal information when given the proper sign (though of course they'll do it without speaking),[7] and the other few that are willing to communicate may provide answers (though of course these answers will lack their corresponding questions).[8]

There is a small population of irritable monkeys squatting in Codex, maintaining a mysterious shrine. They're in possession of several strange log-books, including a book that documents the many sigils, possibly Correspondence sigils, that dot the landscape of Codex.[9] In fact, such sigils can be found within the stones of Codex as well, etched into the rocks like fossils.[10]

An Answer: Forever hurtling towards the earth.
