Heart-Takers

From The Fifth City Wiki

Heart-Catchers are intelligent plants that grow fruit that looks like human heads. The heads on each plant appear to have independent minds that talk amongst themselves like a community.

St John's Lily

In Fallen London, one may find "a singular plant" called St. John's Lily that consumes wine and small animals. It can be used to fight against others of its kind in the Tournament of Lilies. Eventually it starts producing fruit that looks like little heads.

Heart-Catcher Gardens

In the High Wilderness region of Eleutheria, mature Heart-Catchers may be found in the Heart-Catcher Gardens near Pan. They will grant boons to visitors such as preventing specific types of death in the subject's future, in exchange for favours such as disposing of a Death in a Jar.

Heart-Catchers can become fatally ill in old age. One possible cure is temporarily grafting a healthy visitor's head onto the ailing plant, to revive the other heads.

Real life references

In the Bible, St John the Baptist was killed by beheading which might suggest the name of the plant.
