"A stone edifice, scintillant with sigils, is encased in a contrivance of steel and brass. This is a Singh-Jenkins relay, allowing transport (via a loophole in some cosmic mandate) across the sunless wastes to a far-flung district of heaven."[1]
Transit relays, also called Singh-Jenkins relays after the lost Singh-Jenkins Expedition that developed the first relays,[2] are methods of transportation through the High Wilderness. It is not clear how they work, but they are engraved with Correspondence sigils that appear to circumvent cosmic law, allowing locomotives to jump to other parts of space.[3] The work of the Singh-Jenkins expedition was used to establish further relays.[4]
It would be fair to call transit relays wyrmholes. They follow the paths of the Burrower Below,[10] and using them frequently carries a risk of drawing her ire.[11][12]
↑Supply Otherworldly Artefacts for the translators, Sunless Skies"The undiscussed truth of the relays is that while we know that they work, we don't know how. The sigils mounted on the sequencer-wheels function as something across between a key, a compass, a tuning-fork, and a legal exemption to fundamental cosmic laws."
↑Transit Relay#A Broken Transit Relay, Sunless Skies"This stone edifice has the same contrivance of steel and brass as the others, but the metal is tarnished. The relay's sigils are cracked and worn. The lights are out. The relay station is unmanned and – it seems from the layer of old frost – has been for some time."
↑Press her for more information, Sunless Skies"She leans forward and lowers her voice. "Old paths cross the sky, worn by the passage of something ancient and vast. By building transit relays at either end of these paths, we can access them, and use them to travel to far corners of the sky. I believe I've located another such road, one that links Albion directly to Eleutheria. I want to build a new relay."
↑Attention: the Burrower Below, Sunless Skies"The passage is less pleasant than you had hoped. A crewman swears he saw something vast stirring in the sky's deeps, and raves about a "many-eyed burrower" to any who will listen.""
