"Relickers are the rag-and-bone men of Mr Cups. They salvage junk and occasionally pay for it."

Mr. Cups takes anyone, regardless of what they previously did with their lives. Perhaps he doesn't check. They each choose a rat to follow them, though some would say guard them instead. There are four main Relickers.

The Capering Relicker

Originally an inhabitant of the First City, and the Manager of the Royal Bethlehem's uncle, he was the first to brew the Hesperidian Cider, and the only one to follow its visions and obtain true immortality. He trades in infernal goods, despite this, Devils refuse to deal with him. His rat's name is Gulliver. Gulliver lived in the Brass Embassy before the Devils did, and angered them when they moved in. He sticks close to The Capering Relicker for protection. He wears a green mask.

The Coquettish Relicker

Trades in Fabrics and her rat's name is Mathilde. She does not seem to care about her rat much. The Coquettish Relicker seems to know a lot about the mysteries of the Neath, as well as the secrets of the people in it.

The Curt Relicker

A former member of the Calendar Council, he was expelled because he fell in love with another member. Trades in Rumors and his rat's name is Monty. Monty seems to genuinely care about the Curt Relicker.

The Shivering Relicker

Trades in Wild Words. She was an accomplished scholar who decided to study the Correspondence and farther mysteries of the Neath. It did not go well. Her rat is Pinnock, and his job is to make sure she does her job properly and doesn't run away. He keeps her drugged with Laudanum. Pinnock is the largest rat, he has been compared to a badger.

Why are there no foxes in the city?

The foxes wanted dominion over waste and refuse. Mr Cups denied them, and gave it to the rats instead, which is why each Relicker has a rat. The foxes left for the elder continent after this.
