The Nacreous Outcast is a Rubbery Man with strange scar on its face and who, oddly for its kind, can speak,[1] cook[2] and perform religious rituals.[3]
The Nacreous Outcast was exiled by its kind because it commited some crimes in the eye of its kind. Among them was loving someone, which is forbidden among Rubbery Men. It was therefor abandoned in Port Cecil and became a servant to the Principles of Coral.[2] The phosphorecent scare on his forehead might have been caused by scintillack.[4]
The Outcast ia forced to gather materials to prepare for a chess match with the Principles of Coral, where it will serves as the latter's hand. If the Principle of Coral looses the match, it will die or be made lesser, an outcome it desire.[5] Unfortunately, the Outcast will share its fate.[4] However, if the Principles of Coral looses, the Outcast will be freed.[6]
