Rosina
"Our healer, Rosina. She was the abbess at the hospital in Adam's Way, and petitioned Nidah on several occasions to afford her patients additional time. The Nidaheen ignored her. I did not."[1]
A skilled healer and Batuk's cousin,[2] Rosina was in charge of medical services for the Seven Against Nidah and their armies.[3] She formerly supervised a hospital in Adam's Way.[1]
Rosina's greatest hindrance was animescence, a strange disease native to the Elder Continent that is provoked by intense emotion. Normally, Rosina would have avoided contracting the disease by being as dispassionate as possible in treating her patients.[4] But one day, news broke that ignited more passion in her than ever before:[5] a Presbyterate princess - Mariam - had received a gift of immortality from her father, only to share it with an injured Khaganian general. At that very instant, an animescent beggar - sent by the Presbyter - burst into flames right in front of Rosina, causing her to contract the disease in her rare moment of vulnerability.[6] It is not clear why the Presbyter intended to assassinate Rosina, seeing as this event marked the founding of the Seven Against Nidah, and as such Rosina had not been recruited.
Rosina hasn't given up yet; after the expedition failed, she fled to Anthe, where she had her kidney crystallized to suppress her emotions and prevent her disease from progressing further. Her research into curing animescence still continues, but she is running out of time.[7]
Bafflingly, a significant number of people (called conflagranti) have flocked to Rosina's chambers in Anthe, hoping to contract animescence from her[8][9] and spread the disease.[10]
