"The worms are screaming. The boat is shattered. Wild-eyed Chelonite zealots leap into the zee. None of them try to swim. As far as you can tell, they're diving straight down, with no intention of coming back up."[1]
The Eater of Names is a formidably-armed priest-ship that patrols the waters near the Chelonate.[2] Drawn by enormous worms[2] and manned by seventy-seven Chelonite zealots,[3][4] the Eater plunders endlessly in the name of the Great Shell and Death.[5] For each Eater that is destroyed, a new one will inevitably rise again.[6]
The Eater of Names' figurehead apparently originates from the Gant Pole, and is either painted or infused with gant.[7] According to Chelonite tradition, one may not use a name if they reside too close to the Gant Pole;[8] it is possible that the Eater of Names is meant to enforce this rule.
