“The hurdigurt was hurt by the flirting burton? Sixteen snickers against a frisky whisker? It's not clear which is worse: the painful rhymes or the shoddy typesetting.”[1]
March of the Calendar Council is a largely unknown but influential revolutionary.
Wait, Who?
The current March is a shadowy, subtle figure[2] who "inherited a compromised network."[3] He is affiliated with the Affluent Photographer, a revolutionary who works outside of the Calendar Council.[4]
Long Live March
"John was one of my dearest friends. I was the one who found him – collapsed in his Blackfinger office, lying on a pile of tracts."[5]
Known as "The Working-Man's Friend,"[6] the previous March was an ardent enemy of Mr Wines[7] and a campaigner for social reform and temperance. He was also a coffee enthusiast, who happily gave the stuff away to those in need,[8][9] and even exchanged goods for coffee to distribute to others.[10] His line of work led him to a lasting friendship with the Dauntless Temperance Campaigner,[11] who was the one to find his body after he was assassinated.[5]
He was loudly anti-Bazaar,[12] though his stance on the Liberation of Night was unknown, and was also daring enough to act openly in his capacity as a member of the Calendar Council.[13]
The old March was ultimately betrayed and killed permanently by the Haunted Doctor,[14][6] who had been hired by the Council themselves because March's faith got in the way of his politics.[14]
Historical Connections
The previous March's causes, sentiments, and the conflict between his faith and his politics draw parallels with real-life publisher, social reformer, literacy advocate, temperance activist, and caffeine connoisseur John Cassell. The Dauntless Temperance Campaigner mentions that his name was indeed John.[11]

A fool might be underestimated – but you should not play the fool. No, such a tactic is overused. Play the fool's fool. Or perhaps not a fool at all. But play. Or fool. Victory is thus inevitable.' ... What?”"
