"It's not 'a plain.' That sounds like it's a comfortable flatland. This is a plain covered by malignant grasses that want to drink the liquid out of your skin. Thank you, we would prefer a different route."[1]
The Plain of Thirsty Grasses is an open stretch of land in the Hinterlands.[2] As its name would imply, the plants here drain the vitality from unprotected travelers.[3][4] These treacherous growths are mostly grasses, but also include other plants like daisies. Unsurprisingly, they appear greener and well-nourished after absorbing a wanderer's vital fluids.[5]
Injuries to the skin are not the only threat here;[6] the Plain's vegetation can induce rapid aging and withered flesh.[7] Those who have spent a long time here also report strange dreams, particularly of "haunting songs" and imagery of the Unterzee.[8]
