Hybras seems to be something of a dismal, sleepy retirement town in space. Many of its residents are octogenarians, and despite the rampant fungus, [[Blemmigans]], and the giant ants, the colonists in Hybras are unusually welcoming compared to the more common kind of settlers that live in homesteads. They would often serves tea and invite guests to a game of bowls.

Many of its residents are octogenarians, and despite the rampant fungus, Blemmigans, and the giant ants, the colonists are unusually welcoming compared to most of the High Wilderness's settlers. They'll gladly invite travelers in for tea and games.

The Wizened Mayor claims that the reason that he and the townsfolk are staying in Hybras is because they are enjoying a "second youth." They were all workers from the Brabazon Workworld, and their old age is the result of the Workworld's time acceleration. They are using what little time they have left to simply have fun.
