It turns out that the Outcast was forced to gather materials to prepare for a chess match against the Principles of Coral. If the Outcast loses, it will die. That being said, the Principles wants to die too. Let's just say the Outcast isn't keen on its impending fate, though intervention is possible. Since Rubberies aren't allowed to love, it's possible that the Outcast's crime was connected to passion in some form. | |||

The Nacreous Outcast is a Rubbery Man who was exiled from his kind.
How Unfortunate
The Nacreous Outcast was abandoned in Port Cecil to be a slave to the Principles of Coral because its views opposed those of its fellow Rubbery Men. Given that it can speak English, it can be inferred that it loved a human (The thought!).
