"The Orphanage, eh? You sure you want to go there? Place is a proper labyrinth, so it is, and full of terrible things. Proper madmen and monsters there, so they say."

The Orphanage, operating under Mr Fires' protection, is a mysterious place that sits in the heart of Spite's labyrinth. Outside, it looks entirely unremarkable - it's a mansion made of red brick, one that could be a school in previous times. Inside, however, everything is white - walls, floors, ceilings. The masked orderlies wear white uniforms as well.
Despite its name, the Orphanage seems to house more than just children. Adults whose parents were murdered permanently to make them eligible, people who offend the Masters, madmen.
The truth of the Orphanage
The Orphanage's real purpose is to be testing grounds for the properties of moon-milk, extracted from the moon-miser held in the basement's Room 122. Ingesting the substance makes a person fall in violent, obsessive love with the first thing they witness. Separating them from the object of their adoration causes insanity, death or 'avulsion'. The only way to reverse the effect of moon-milk is to blind the affected person or make them ingest Lethean Tea.
The masked man

If you're investigating the Orphanage, chances are you will meet Poor Edward. This mysterious masked fellow is a high-rank enforcer for Mr Fires, feared by most inhabitants of London who know of him, even the neddies. There are many rumors about him and his true nature - is he the same sort of creature as the masters, or perhaps two rubbery men glued together at the back?
What is obvious and easy to confirm once you meet him is that he dresses elegantly and wears a scowling mask everywhere. His voice is strange and changes pitches, he is distinctly unused to casual movement and seems to be much faster and stronger than he looks like. Perhaps he is a starved man, or a successful project of the Orphanage itself?
