"What did they do to this adorable horror?"[1]
The Rubbery Hound is a doglike shapeling that roams in the depths of Flute Street. It is about the size of a wolf, but apparently very young. Under its facial tentacles are long and sharp black teeth. This creature was apparently created in the amber chambers of Flute Street, whether by accident or on purpose.[2]
Rubbery Hounds exhibit many typical canine behaviors, like playing with bones or begging for food,[3][4] but they also have an inexplicable fondness for candles. Furthermore, they possess a unique worldliness and are able to communicate through oblique means. They react positively to justice and their fellow Axiles, and fear the dark and the "Great Light."[5]
Upon dying, a Rubbery Hound may split open to reveal many smaller Hounds within its body, which will then feast on their progenitor's remains.[6]
